Goff's Lolly-Scramble - With Imaginary Lollies

Phil Goff's proposal to pay dole to those who lose their jobs, even if their partners are still working is wonderful.

the only thing missing is:
The projected costs
When it starts
How long it should be run for
Whether everyone, regardless of other's earnings is eligible
What services will be cut to pay for it
How taxes will be raised to fund it.

Apart from that, it's a beaut. What next, Phil, extend DPB to married mums (yes please!) Give Sickness benefit to people with tattoos? (Already in effect) Perhaps Perhaps (mental) Invalidity Benefit to anyone who thinks Goff's proposal is anything other than an attempt to win votes off the backs of peoples' misfortune by expelling lots of hot air. Don't get me wrong, I like the principle.
But a real leader should have to come up with something better than the results of a brain-storming exercise, dashed out on the back of an envelope. This just smacks of opportunistic lolly-scramble politics, without any real thought behind it.

Just a bloke who is interested in calling it as I see it. I am not a member of a political party, but am a keen observer of the process. People assume I am 'right wing' because I criticise their politics, but I would argue that to uncritically defend any political party is a 'right-wing' activity, and tht the further you go to defend a political party regardless of its actions, good or bad, the further to the right you go, because you are only interested in defending a status-quo not in holding our representatives to account.
